What is ethology?
Ethology is the science that studies animal behaviour. The term ethology comes from the Greek ethos (custom, conduct) and logos (reasoning, study, science)
Clinical ethology is a specialty of veterinary medicine that deals with behavioral problems in companion animals. An ethologist is, therefore, a veterinary specialist in behavior, trained to diagnose and treat problems such as:
-
Inadequate elimination (urinating/defecating in inappropriate places)
-
Aggressiveness
-
Conductas compulsivas
-
Introduction of new animals
-
Other behavioural problems
-
Separation anxiety
-
Stress (moving house, building work, babies...)
-
Cognitive dysfunction in geriatric animals
-
Fears and phobias (noises, people, other animals...)
